Cllr Oliver Jacques

Oliver has lived in Warwick since 2003 and has two teenage children.

He works at the University of Warwick and completed a part-time degree in European Studies in 2016. He has always maintained an interest in international affairs and politics in general, and therefore feels he has a good understanding of key issues, including on both sides of the Brexit debate.

Much of his free time is now spent as an assistant leader with a local Scout group. He enjoys the satisfaction (and challenge!) of working with young people and helping them to develop into confident, happy and resilient people ready for their lives ahead.

As a Councillor, Oliver would like to promote awareness of mental health issues, particularly amongst young people. Ensuring support is available to those who need it helps to not only improve their own life-chances, but also benefits society as a whole in the long-term.

He has already been in touch with The Children’s Society charity and with their support will be looking at ways to establish effective measures to ensure young people get the right support when they need it. This includes working with existing support networks and schools, as well as reducing the barriers to effective and timely support provision. It is often important to spot early warning signs, and address factors which could exacerbate problems.

Oliver now has the time and ability to give much back to the town as a District and Town Councillor. He is looking forward to helping promote community cohesion through the establishment of good local facilities, as well as good social and support networks.
